Meeting Schedule

Below is a schedule and itinerary for the next
several meetings of the Cape Atlantic Woodturners.
Demonstrator information is tentative and further
information and full details will be released several
weeks before each scheduled meeting.   Videos are
usually available of each meeting & Demonstration.

Directions to the meetings are available on the
website Membership/Meeting page.

Friday 1/22/10
St. Vincent DePaul parochial school class. This is the
last of four classes for this group. They are an
excellent group of children who did a terrific job in
turning. You can see their excitement and pride from
the pictures. Tom Henry is heading the class with
assistance from Arthur Bichsel and me.

Thursday 1/21/10
In attendance were Betty Campbell, Gerald Bruman,
Joe Parson, Jeff Schnell, Richard Mason, Jeff
Gerber, Doug James, Diane Brown and Arthur
Bichsel.  We had a nice discussion regarding future
workshops and demonstrations.  For this February,
we will have our candlestick holder workshop
Thursday, Feb. 18 at the Vo-Tech from 6:00 to 9:00
pm.  Attending the workshop will be Gerald Bruman,
Jeff Gerber, Richard Mason, Diane Brown, Doug
James, Jeff Schnell and myself.  Tom Henry has
approximately 8 students attending his Vo-Tech
class, so members have volunteered to bring in
additional lathes for the workshop.

Betty Campbell has requested a sharpening workshop
for March.  We will use this sharpening class to
sharpen the club tools.  Arthur Bichsel  will assist.
Additional grinders will need to be brought in.  For
April, Gerald Bruman requested a demo on using the
skew.  Joe Parson has volunteered to help and Jeff
Schnell will provide a video.  Currently, nothing has
been scheduled for May.  For June or July, Doug
James will demonstrate the Jamieson hollowing tool.

Raffle:  We wish to thank Alan Tasoff for donating
several tools for the raffle, which brought in $32.00.

Show and Tell:  Gerald Bruman, who usually does
something unique, brought in a very challenging large
turning made up of layers of plywood.  Jeff Gerber
did a nice job in duplicating several turned end
pieces for curtain rods.

Tuesday, Dec 15th Cancelled

Tuesday. Nov. 17th

The following members were in attendance:  Betty
Campbell, Gerald Bruman, Jeff Gerber, Jeffrey
Schnell, Alan Tasoff, Doug James, Arthur Bichsel, Bob
Broschart, Richard Mason, Diane Brown and myself.

A short discussion on AAW liability followed and the
letter of appreciation from the Bacharach Institute
thanking us for our donation was read.

We then discussed our next workshop, which will be a
candlestick holder. Arthur Bichsel brought in a very
complete set of working diagrams and the workpiece in
various stages of completion. Some members expressed
their concern as to whether they have the equipment
to make the necessary blank for turning. Arthur
assured them that it would be possible and, if
necessary, to contact him and that he would assist
anyone needing help. The following members expressed
their desire to join in the workshop: Betty Campbell,
Gerald Bruman, Richard Mason, Diane Brown, Arthur
Bichsel, Guy Buckelew, Tom Henry, Jeff Gerber,
Jeffrey Schnell and myself. We are looking for the
workshop to be scheduled sometime in January. Tom
Henry will be making the arrangements with Vo-Tech.
As for anyone who was not at last night's meeting and
would like to attend the workshop, please contact me
and I will have a set of plans mailed to you for
constructing the workpiece.

If we are unable to meet at the library next month
due to renovations, Tom Henry has obtained permission
for us to meet in a school in Sea Isle City. I will keep
you informed and give directions to the school should we
be meeting there in Dec.

We had a great response with Show and Tell. Some
really unique turnings were brought in and even some
flat work. Jeffrey Schnell took some pictures and will
put them on our web site.

We also discussed the possibility of having another club
dinner some time in March at Tom Henry's son's
restaurant in Sea Isle City. This was met with
enthusiasm from the members as we all had a great
time last year.  We are looking at $20 per person
charge to cover expenses. This will be discussed
further.

October 16,2009
Friday morning Tom Henry, Bob Broschart,
Arthur Bichsel and myself conducted, for the
2nd year, a workshop class for the St. Vincent
De Paul School, located in Mays Landing, (I
believe 6-8th grade) students.  I'd like to
thank Bob Broschart who, even though he had a
doctor's appointment earlier in the morning,
made a special trip to the school to help load
the equipment. The class was really a pleasure
to help assist in, seeing the excitement in the
students.  They all completed bottle stoppers,
some of them very creative.  The students were
all very helpful in cleaning up.

October 15, 2009
The Workshop this past Thurs. at the Vo-Tech
school turned out quite well. Arthur Bichsel did
an excellent job in preparing for the workshop
with templates and sample pieces, and he was
available to assist with any problems. When Tom
Henry announced a coffee break, almost
everyone preferred to continue working.

June 16, 2009
At last night's meeting the following members
were in attendance:  Tom Henry, Doug James,
Don Matousch, Joe Parson, Jeffrey Schnell, Bob
Broschart and guests, Ruth Ann Befferman and
Bob Nicey of Susquehanna Woodturners.

Mike Cunningham gave an excellent and
informative presentation on how he and his wife
Brenda make those beautifully Southwestern
decorated platters.  He brought in several
examples of their work and also showed and
discussed the tools that he uses.  The
presentation prompted much interest and
questions from club members.
Thanks Mike!

I want to thank those who brought in prizes for
the raffle and, particularly, those who brought
in something for Show and Tell.

It was decided to send a donation to the
American Cancer Society in memory of Sue
Rotellini, who, with her husband Carl, was one of
the original members of our club.
